“The Royals inspire our community each time they take the field and play. But when they come to the Mission and humbly serve our guests, they inspire our struggling neighbors to aim higher and dream bigger. This event is a home run every year thanks to their incredible generosity.”
–Executive Director Dan Doty

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— On Wednesday, November 6, Kansas City Royals players and representatives, including Royals pitcher Ian Kennedy and the Royals mascot, Sluggerrr, will serve a full barbecue meal to more than 290 men, women and children at City Union Mission.

Every year, struggling families and individuals in Kansas City look forward to meeting Royals players and enjoying the food and fellowship the team provides. This year, the Royals will serve a delicious meal including pulled pork BBQ, potato salad, cheesy corn, baked beans and soda, plus apple crisp and ice cream for dessert.

“For 14 years, the Royals Charities have been faithful friends and partners with City Union Mission,” said Executive Director Dan Doty. “Their generosity demonstrates Christ’s love as they donate their time and money to provide this special annual meal for homeless men, women and children who are guests at the Mission.”

The Royals will be serving the meal on Wednesday, November 6 from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at City Union Mission’s Men’s Center, located at 1108 E. 10th Street. The team will also be providing this meal at the Mission’s Family Center, from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m., at 1310 Wabash in Kansas City. The Mission invites media representatives to attend the event at both locations for photo and interview opportunities.

“The Royals inspire our community each time they take the field and play,” Doty said. “But when they come to the Mission and humbly serve our guests, they inspire our struggling neighbors to aim higher and dream bigger. This event is a home run every year thanks to their incredible generosity.”
