City Union Mission Announces New Name and Location for Recovery Program Facility and Camp Office in Warsaw
“Our recovery and camp facilities in Warsaw continue to be a place of comfort and safety, a place where struggling men – and children from low-income families – can build a firm foundation on their path towards a brighter future.”—Chief Executive Officer Terry Megli
KANSAS CITY, Mo.— City Union Mission has updated the name of their Men’s long-term recovery program in Warsaw to The Harbor to better reflect the scope of service it provides to men battling homelessness, poverty, addiction and other life challenges. Formerly known as “Opportunity Farm,” The Harbor will occupy a different building on the Mission’s property in Warsaw. The Mission’s Camp CUMCITO office will reside in the vacant space in the former “Opportunity Farm” building.
“For the past 96 years, men seeking recovery who needed to escape from past acquaintances and temptations have come to our farm in Warsaw to be part of our long-term recovery Christian Life Program,” said City Union Mission Chief Executive Officer Terry Megli. “Program participants help maintain the grounds and facilities of the farm while working towards rebuilding their lives and achieving their goals of obtaining employment and affordable housing. We believe ‘The Harbor’ more accurately describes the safe haven and refuge provided for these men seeking a fresh start.”
The Harbor occupies the Mercer Building, a former elementary school located on the Mission’s 1,000-acre property in Warsaw. The facility can house up to 20 men who take part in a 12- to 18-month residential program that takes a holistic and personalized approach to rebuilding lives physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. The program includes case management, counseling, work therapy, adult education, vocational training, career development and job placement. The facility will also have 3 dedicated rooms to offer new vocational education and training.
The Mission’s Camp CUMCITO offices will now be located in the former Opportunity Farm building. “Our recovery and camp facilities in Warsaw continue to be a place of comfort and safety, a place where struggling men – and children from low-income families – can build a firm foundation on their path towards a brighter future,” said Megli.
