KANSAS CITY, Mo.—City Union Mission is joining forces with Hy-Vee to provide food for Kansas City’s poor and homeless through a community-wide food drive as part of the Mission’s annual Feed KC Now outreach effort.  This metro area initiative helps feed the growing number of men, women and children who face hunger on a daily basis in our community.

All twenty Kansas City metro area Hy-Vee stores are participating in the non-perishable food drive that will take place March 13 through March 29. Shoppers can choose from a $5 or $10 pre-packaged bag of groceries to donate at checkout to help feed hungry neighbors in need.

“It’s hard to believe that every single day in our community there are individuals who go hungry and families who struggle to provide their families with enough to eat,” shared City Union Mission Chief Executive Officer Terry Megli.  “While most of us might not encounter poverty and hunger on a daily basis, the hundreds of men, women and children that eat at our dining room tables are proof that hunger does exist in our community.  With your help and Hy-Vee’s support, we’ll not only satisfy their hunger for food but also provide the guidance and hope that lead to a better life.”

On average, City Union Mission provides 750 plates of food in the form of meals, grocery boxes or pantry distributions to hungry neighbors each day.  Those who turn to the Mission for food are also assisted with safe shelter, counseling and case management, life-skills classes and education, and other programs and services to help them and their families achieve independent and stable living.

Megli adds that those unable to make it to a Hy-Vee store can still help Feed KC Now by making an online donation at cityunionmission.org
