City Union Mission Celebrates New Vocational and Educational Training Programs with an Open House of Workforce Academy
“Expanding our vocational and educational services at Workforce Academy to provide marketable employment skills is a tremendous advantage for our program participants and community.” —Chief Executive Officer Terry Megli
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—On Friday, April 23, City Union Mission invites the community to join them for an open house of their new Workforce Academy that provides vocational and educational training for participants of the Mission’s recovery programs. The celebration will take place at the former City Thrift store, 2301 Lexington Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, from 5 to 6 p.m. An invitation-only celebration for special guests will take place from 3 to 4 p.m.
“Expanding our vocational and educational services at Workforce Academy to provide marketable employment skills is a tremendous advantage for our program participants and community,” said City Union Mission Chief Executive Officer Terry Megli. “Our new Academy offers a variety of training opportunities including plumbing, electrical, drywall and HVAC maintenance skills, and we have plans to expand our offerings to more vocations in the near future to include construction framing and roofing, small engine repair, ServSafe food handling certification, digital technology training and more.”
The educational, vocational and job-readiness training City Union Mission offers are key components of the ministry’s mission to restore the lives of struggling men and women in the Kansas City metro area. The Mission’s Workforce Academy brings together Mission staff, volunteers, educational and corporate partners to deliver education and job training for Mission program participants who seek to improve their employment opportunities.
“Our hope is that Workforce Academy will be a place for our program participants to build their confidence and gain valuable skills they can invest back into our community’s workforce,” said Megli. “We are grateful for our community’s support in helping the homeless in our community on their path back to work.”
