🙏 A Huge THANK YOU to KANSAS CITY, Hy-Vee Shoppers for driving Feed KC Now forward with Hy-Vee and City Union Mission!
From March 10–31, shoppers across the KC metro stepped up in a big way—donating $5 and $10 pre-packed bags of food to help our homeless and hungry neighbors.
On April 16, the generosity showed up in a BIG way:
🥕 1,251 lbs. of canned carrots
🍝 889 lbs. of boxed elbow macaroni
🌿 409 lbs. of canned peas
🍑 427 lbs. of canned fruit
🥫 1,677 lbs. of canned green beans
🌽 1,274 lbs. of canned corn
Together, we’re making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you, Hy-Vee, and thank YOU, Kansas City, for showing up with heart. 💛

💙 Last week, our Health Services Supervisor, Dinae Chichester, had the honor of representing our mission through an impactful training session with Saint Luke`s Health System. She presented "Trauma-Informed Care When Basic Needs Are Missing" to an incredible group of nurses, medical staff, social workers, law enforcement, and interdisciplinary professionals across the Kansas City area.
When individuals or families experience homelessness or lack basic needs, they are often navigating deep trauma. Dinae reminded us that even one day being homeless is one day too many—and one day too many to be without compassionate, trauma-informed care.
She shared the 6 foundational pillars of Trauma-Informed Care:
1. Safety
2. Trustworthiness & Transparency
3. Peer Support
4. Collaboration & Mutuality
5. Empowerment Voice & Choice
6. Cultural, Historical, & Gender Issues
At the core of our work is this truth: Trauma-informed care isn’t just what we do—it’s how we do it. We create spaces of safety, build trust, offer support, and walk alongside each person as they find their voice and reclaim their story.
This is the culture we foster as we share the transformative love and healing power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 💛

🌸 As Easter approaches, we`re reminded of the joy, hope, and love this season brings. At the Mission, we`re committed to ensuring the children we serve experience the love of Jesus in action.
This Easter, we want to create lasting memories filled with fun, laughter, and love. Many of these children face challenges daily, but they deserve to experience the pure joy of being a child, free from the weight of their struggles. Easter is the perfect opportunity to remind them that they are not forgotten and that they are deeply loved.
Together, we can help them create beautiful, life-changing memories filled with love. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Thank you for considering joining us in this mission to bring joy to these amazing children. Donate here https://secure.qgiv.com/for/easterfacebookdonationform

🌟 Transforming Lives Together 🌟
We are incredibly proud to highlight Ernestine as one of the amazing guests whose life has been changed thanks to the generosity of our donors. 🙌
Ernestine’s journey is one of true resilience. When she and her son came to us, we knew we had to help. Through your support, we were able to fund the repairs on Ernestine`s car, giving her the confidence to search for employment. And when we learned that she secured a job, we were beyond excited to provide her with two sets of scrubs to help her start her new role the very next week! 🚗💼
Ernestine’s story is a powerful reminder of how your donations make a real difference. It’s not just about fixing cars or buying scrubs – it’s about giving people like Ernestine the chance to rebuild their lives with hope and dignity. ❤️
A huge THANK YOU to all our donors for making these life-changing moments possible. Together, we’re transforming lives and shining light where it`s needed most. ✨

🌟 Engaging with the Community: A Step Towards Healing 🌟
Last week, the Men`s Ministry and Clinical teams had an amazing opportunity to connect with the Kansas City community at the Voices Matter Panel at the Kansas City Public Library. Alongside our passionate leaders, we shared the vital services City Union Mission provides to those experiencing homelessness and heard directly from the men we serve.
It was powerful to hear their questions and concerns, from how to access overnight beds to our medical & mental health services. 🙏
One of the most inspiring moments was hearing a story of victory from a man who, with our support, is moving into his own apartment soon! 🏡✨
Because of these meaningful conversations, we were able to bring three men into our Emergency Men`s Center that night. We`re reminded that community engagement is key to healing, trust-building, and life transformation. 🙌
Let`s continue praying for healing and hope as we work together to restore lives.

We are so proud to share that our former guest and now valued team member, Anthony, is making an incredible impact at City Union Mission. He’s dedicated to sharing his personal journey and the transformation he’s experienced through God`s grace.
Currently, Anthony works in our L. Minor Care Center, where he focuses on supporting men who may be struggling with mental health or dealing with physical limitations. For the past three years, he has faithfully ensured that LMCC men get a ride to church. And when the weather is bad, he steps up to lead a service right in our center.
This past Sunday, Anthony was installed as a deacon in his church — a truly inspiring milestone in his journey.
We are beyond blessed to have Anthony as part of our team, and we can`t wait for you to hear more of his powerful story. If you follow The Living Well Podcast, be sure to catch Anthony sharing his testimony in the coming weeks!

🌟 Big News! 🌟
We are beyond proud to share that Janice has been approved for her very own apartment! 🎉 Her determination and perseverance have paid off, and we couldn’t be happier for her! While we will miss "Aunt Janice" here at the Mission, we are so excited for this new chapter in her life. 🏡
Janice’s journey began on 7/1/24 when she accidentally walked into the Admin building at City Union Mission and met our wonderful team member, Troy, who took her to our Women and Family Center. Little did she know, that meeting would lead her to a life-changing experience. She thought she knew about God, but through her time at the Mission, she truly found Him. It’s only by God`s grace that she now has a place to call home! 🙏✨
During her stay, the Mission staff not only provided her with a Bible, but they showed her endless love, patience, and support. Chapel nights were a chance for Janice to grow spiritually, and through those connections, she found her way to Redeemer Church. She’s even started membership classes! ✝️
Janice is a shining example of faith, perseverance, and the power of community. She’s never afraid because she knows God is with her. 🙌 We’re so grateful to have been part of her journey and to have witnessed her transformation.
Janice may say she can never repay us, but the truth is, it’s our absolute pleasure to love and serve her. God is GOOD! 🙌💖

🌟 We recently had the privilege of representing City Union Mission at the Health Resource Fair hosted by Advent Health in Shawnee Mission! 🌟
It was an amazing opportunity to connect with social workers and community organizations across the Kansas City area. We were able to share more about the services we provide at City Union Mission while also learning about valuable resources available to help our guests and participants.
One exciting connection made at the event was with an agency that could provide memory services for one of our program participants, a key resource to support their recovery and independence.
Events like this are vital in helping us offer the best support to those we serve, and they are a big part of why we believe Hope Lives Here. 💙
