Vanderberg Youth Center (VYC) Mission Statement: The VYC exists to serve the youth of Kansas City and their families by building nurturing relationships rooted in the love of Jesus Christ, in order that youth may flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.

The VYC ministers to two distinct populations, all between the ages of 7 to 17:
  • Residential Children: Children and teens living in our Family Shelter or New Life Center.

  • Community Children: Children and teens living in the immediate neighborhood around the Family Center, those who attend one of our target schools (Wendell Phillips Elementary School or Northeast High School), or students who have a history of VYC participation.

We seek to minister to these children and teens through four primary programs throughout the year.
  • Chapel: Chapel takes place for residential youth each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:45 to 8:00 pm.  Through Bible Study and other activities, we desire to make the Gospel known and build relationships with each youth.

  • Shelter Tutoring: Each Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm we offer a tutoring time for our residential youth. During this time, we offer homework assistance and enrichment work to help each child grow academically.

  • City Corps:  City Corps is an after-school ministry for students from elementary through high school, Monday through Thursday during the school year. This intensive program incorporates tutoring, recreation, field trips, life skills (computer training, cooking, woodworking, service projects, etc.), and spiritual development through devotions, Bible Study, and Scripture memorization to help our youth grow academically, socially, and spiritually. Elementary students are here Monday through Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.  Secondary students are here Tuesday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm.

  • City Camp: City Camp is a 8-week summer day camp experience for residential and community youth. Each week camp has a different theme in which programming explores and incorporates Bible Study, recreation, field trips, and educational study. Campers also enjoy breakfast and lunch each day in our facility. Up to 150 youth will be ministered to through this program. Each City Camper may get to spend a week at Camp CUMCITO.
