Community Raises $23,000 for the Poor and Homeless at City Union Mission’s 30th Annual Bikers with a Mission Benefit Ride

“It was a wonderful day marked by a love of motorcycles, cars and a desire to share God’s love with those in need.” —Executive Director Dan Doty

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—More than 150 motorcycle enthusiasts and vintage car aficionados lined the street in front of City Union Mission this morning to participate in the Mission’s Bikers With A Mission (BWAM) Benefit Ride, raising $23,000 to help fund the Mission’s programs and services to assist the area’s homeless and working poor.

For the first time in the event’s history, vintage cars joined motorcyclists to celebrate the special 30th anniversary event for a 75-mile Retro Ride around the Kansas City metro area. The ride ended at City Union Mission’s Camp CUMCITO with lunch, a program and prizes for those raising the most funds.

“It’s incredible to see how God has grown this event and used it to help the ‘least of these’ over the past 30 years,” said Executive Director Dan Doty. “As I looked out across the mass of cars and motorcycles today, I was humbled and deeply grateful for a God who provides, and a community who cares so deeply for the homeless and hurting men, women and children in Kansas City. It was a wonderful day marked by a love of motorcycles, cars and a desire to share God’s love with those in need.”

The Mission expresses their gratitude and appreciation to dedicated event volunteers, to the individuals and groups who supported the event with financial pledges, and to generous title sponsors Antioch Bible Baptist Church; Dougherty & Holloway, LLC; Engle Motors, Inc.; Krispy Kreme; Panera Bread; Sir Speedy; Teamsters Local 41; The Roasterie; and Yeager’s Cycle Sales, Inc.
The Mission relies on proceeds from this event to assist guests, residents and struggling neighbors with medications, eyeglasses, bus tokens for job interviews, utility assistance, baby formula and nursery supplies. Since the inception of the event 30 years ago, BWAM has raised a total of $752,000.
