City Union Mission Announces Amanda Greene as New Chief Programs Officer

Amanda Joy GreeneKansas City, MO — City Union Mission today announced the appointment of Amanda Joy Greene as its new Chief Programs Officer, effective February 2, 2026. Greene succeeds Lynn Johnson, who will transition from his role as Chief Programs Officer into a consulting capacity while continuing to support strategic program initiatives for the Mission.

The appointment reflects the Mission’s continued commitment to strengthening and expanding care for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, hunger, and crisis across the Kansas City region.

Greene has served City Union Mission for eight years, most recently as Administrator and Care Ministry Director for the L. Minor Care Center. She joined the Mission in November 2017 and, alongside her team, helped launch and establish the L. Minor Care Center, a specialized program designed to support men experiencing homelessness who also face mental health challenges, physical disabilities, or complex care needs. Under her leadership, the Care Center has provided and coordinated compassionate, whole-person support that empowers individuals to stabilize, heal, and take meaningful steps toward safe and permanent housing.

Before joining City Union Mission, Greene served more than twenty years on active duty in the United States Army, bringing a disciplined, mission-focused leadership approach to nonprofit service. Her journey with the Mission began as a high-impact volunteer supporting the Women and Family Center, reflecting a longstanding commitment to service and community care.

“Amanda’s leadership is grounded in experience, compassion, and a deep commitment to Christ-centered care,” said Gareth Keown, Chief Executive Officer of City Union Mission. “Her work consistently reflects a focus on dignity, responsibility, and long-term outcomes. She is exceptionally well prepared to lead our programs forward while strengthening capacity, alignment, and innovation across the Mission.”

Greene’s leadership will focus on increasing capacity of care, streamlining recovery services, reinstating and strengthening community assistance programs, and advancing innovative, integrated program delivery, ensuring City Union Mission remains a trusted and effective safety net for the community.

Lynn Johnson will continue working with the Mission as a program consultant. “Serving City Union Mission has been an incredible privilege,” said Johnson. “While my role is changing, my commitment to the Mission’s work continues. I am fully confident in Amanda’s leadership and look forward to supporting her and the executive team during this transition.”
