Donate Smartphones in Kansas City: Hello Hope, 100 Phones. 100 Fresh Starts.

At City Union Mission, we see every day how small essentials can make a life-changing difference.
For someone rebuilding their life, a smartphone is not a luxury. It is a lifeline.
Through the Hello Hope Campaign, we are working to collect 100 new or gently used smartphones and raise $20,000 in 3 months to support guests in our recovery programs, the Christian Life Program for men and the New Life Program for women and families.
These phones help guests stay connected to care, apply for jobs, access resources, and take the next step toward stability. Financial gifts help us purchase phones when needed and provide prepaid service so guests can stay connected when it matters most.
It costs about $380 to provide one guest with a phone and a year of basic service. That means every donated device and every financial gift helps remove a real barrier to recovery, stability, and hope.
If you have a device to give, we invite you to donate it to our warehouse. If you would rather help financially, your gift allows our program to purchase phones and service for guests who need them most.

A phone is more than a device. It is a critical tool for recovery, communication, and daily stability.

Without a reliable smartphone, even basic next steps become major barriers. Calls are missed. Interviews are delayed. Appointments fall through. Support becomes harder to reach.

With a phone and prepaid service, guests can:

  • stay in contact with case managers and counselors
  • access healthcare, housing, and transportation resources
  • stay connected with family and healthy support systems
  • use recovery apps, schedules, and accountability tools
  • apply for jobs and attend virtual interviews
  • communicate with employers and follow up on opportunities
