Needs Met. Lives Transformed.

Serving Our City’s Homeless & Hurting

Since 1924, we’ve offered hope to men, women and children struggling with huge challenges. Homelessness. Addiction. Poverty.

We start by extending a welcoming hand and helping to meet their immediate needs – food, shelter, clothing.

From there, we offer them a new foundation for their lives through Christ – and life-changing programs that move them toward physical, emotional and spiritual wholeness.

Needs met. Lives transformed.

It’s only possible because of your support!

Mission Christmas

Help thousands of income-qualified families and individuals enjoy the holidays.

In June, our Volunteer Coordinator, Sheryl Hasmanis, along with our HR Administrative Assistant, Jo Priest, had the joy of attending the KC Women Leaders Missional Network Luncheon Ministry Fair.

It was a beautiful reminder of how God continues to connect His people for His purposes. We were able to share the story of City Union Mission and form meaningful connections with other women passionate about ministry and service.

These Kingdom partnerships help us grow deeper roots and a wider reach for the work ahead.

Thank you to all who continue to serve, give, and go with us. Your legacy of faith in action inspires the next generation! 🙌

Our Fall Kids Camp (October 2–5) is just around the corner, and we have room for campers ages 5–9, but only just under 30 spots are filled so far.

That means there’s still time to sign up a child who could use a few days of fun, faith, and friendship!

We’re also looking for caring volunteers to help create an unforgettable retreat experience. Whether you're passionate about mentoring, storytelling, or just being a steady presence, there’s a place for you at camp.

Registration closes September 24!

To sign up a child or volunteer, email: campworkers@cityunionmission.org

Let’s show these kids how deeply they’re loved. 💛

Will you join us in lifting up the guests, staff, and caregivers at our L. Minor Care Center in prayer today?

This space is a refuge for men facing complex mental and emotional challenges, many of whom are taking their first steps toward healing and stability.

Pray for peace of mind, strength in recovery, and for our team to continue serving with compassion, patience, and wisdom.

Your prayers make a real difference. 💛

We’re so grateful for the continued generosity of our community. As temperatures rise across Kansas City, our commitment to being a steady, compassionate presence for those in need remains strong.

One simple but powerful way we’re doing that this summer is through Buddy Bags—drawstring bags filled with essential items that bring relief to individuals experiencing homelessness during the extreme heat.

Each bag includes:
 💧 Two bottles of water
🧦 A fresh pair of socks
🧼 A hygiene kit with lip balm, snacks, toothbrush/toothpaste & more

These small gestures make a big difference, especially when given with love.

Whether you’re a long-time volunteer, a family looking to serve together, or someone just beginning your journey of giving, we invite you to be part of this effort.

We're sending a special Thank You to Alice Walters, who began the Buddy Bag Project, Inc and made this all possible (buddybagprojectinc.com).

🔥 Cool KC brought together organizations across Kansas City with one shared goal: to protect our homeless neighbors during the dangerous summer heat.

Dinae Chichester, our Health Services Coordinator, and Stephen Chichester, Director of Men's Ministry, represented City Union Mission—sharing how we’re addressing the urgent needs of those living unsheltered during these hot months.

They connected with agency leaders, raised awareness of our services, and made it clear: we’re here to partner, serve, and lead.

➡️ We’re actively seeking more opportunities to engage with community events, churches, and businesses. Know someone we should connect with? Let’s work together to make an even greater impact.

At City Union Mission, this verse comes to life every day.

We see it in quiet moments of prayer.
In a guest’s first step toward healing.
In volunteers who consistently show up with compassion.

God is near in the heartbreak, and He is working through people like you to bring hope.

Whether you’ve been serving for decades or are just finding your place, know this: your presence matters. You are part of the healing.

🤝 Let’s keep showing up together.

Today is International Day of Friendship — and at City Union Mission, friendship is more than a kind gesture. It’s a lifeline.

Every day, we witness the power of friendship between staff, guests, volunteers, and donors. A shared meal. A listening ear. A word of encouragement. These simple acts become the foundation of hope and transformation.

True friendship says: “You matter. You’re not alone. I’ll walk with you.”

Thank you to everyone who chooses to be a friend to the hurting and homeless in Kansas City. You are part of the healing.

Let’s continue to build a city where friendship restores, uplifts, and brings dignity to every story.
