Provide nutritious and attractive meals to shelter guests, staff, and volunteers. An adequate amount of food must be prepared according to the number of people in the shelter, up to 300. Provide a friendly, warm atmosphere for shelter guests, staff, and volunteers. Maintain Health Department standards for cleanliness in kitchen.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work well with clients, staff, and volunteers; must have a heart for the ministry. Must be willing and able to supervise clients, while at the same time train them for future employment. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain (within 90-days) a manager’s level Food Safety certification from the Health Department or ServSafe.
  • Have one or more years of quantity cooking experience preferred.

Opportunity Farm: Cook & Driver - Warsaw, MO

Opportunity Farm, based in Warsaw, MO, is a dual-focus ministry serving both the Christian Life Program (Christ-centered, biblically-based, long-term drug and alcohol recovery ministry) and Camp CUMCITO (Christian camping ministry). This person will prepare and serve meals for the Opportunity Farm, maintain the kitchen and dining areas, and keep accurate records of food and supplies for kitchen.

Opportunity Farm: Administrative Assistant PT - Warsaw, MO

Opportunity Farm, based in Warsaw, MO, is a dual-focus ministry serving both the Christian Life Program (Christ-centered, biblically-based, long-term drug and alcohol recovery ministry) and Camp CUMCITO (Christian camping ministry). This person will assist the Director, Program Administrator, and Facility Administrator with administrative duties. Help minister to the practical and spiritual needs of the men in the Christian Life Program. Help maintain and improve the environment of the Farm Office.

Qualifications:

  • Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless and the poor of Warsaw with a compassionate heart.
  • Have computer skills in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and Google Mail.

Family Ministries: Security/Hotline/Shelter Manager, Overnight PT

To meet the informational needs of callers during non-business hours, especially homeless persons seeking shelter. Help provide a safe environment for staff, clients, and guests. Monitor building activities from security booth and function as the Shelter Manager during overnight hours.

  • Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless and the urban poor of Kansas City with a compassionate heart.
  • Have good people and property management skills, exhibit leadership qualities, have oral and written communication skills, be well organized, and demonstrate ability to delegate.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully with the public. Must understand life safety, security, and emergency procedures.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.

New Life Center Resident Manager PT

Share an apartment with another resident manager on site and be provided meals with guests and staff. Maintain a safe and secure facility which houses the New Life Program. Provide compassionate orderliness throughout the New Life Center, particularly overnight. Conduct security patrols during the night, as well as work closely with other City Union Mission security personnel. Oversee participants of the New Life Program, assuring cooperation with program policy and procedures and proper treatment of facility. Promote Jesus Christ through behavior and seek opportunities to minister to the spiritual needs of guests. Compensation for this position is room and board.

Qualifications:

  • Be available in the New Life Center during assigned hours – M-F 9pm-8am/ Sat & Sun 9pm-9am
  • Be a born again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel as opportunities during the work day arise.
  • Have a desire to serve the Lord through a widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless and the urban poor of Kansas City with a compassionate heart.
  • Have strong people and communication skills, leadership skills, good judgement, and the ability to give tough love when necessary.

Men’s Special Needs Shelter: Shelter Manager, Evening/Overnight PT (2)

To ensure orderly procedure in all areas of the L Minor Care Center (LMCC) shelter ministry. To ensure orderliness among the men in the LMCC and their activities.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a heart for the homeless, ability to deal tactfully and interact well with men with different challenges.
  • Demonstrate a background of neatness, accuracy, and dependability with a high level of personal integrity.
  • Prefer experience in residential housing, social work, counseling, and/or pastoral ministry.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent; Two years of college preferred.

Monitor those who enter the Men's Center to make sure the building is secure.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a compassionate heart for the poor and hurting of society. Exhibit good judgement, sensitivity, neatness, accuracy, and dependability. Must be able to deal tactfully with the public.
  • Have or agree to get a CDL license within three months of hire date. Must be familiar with office equipment and operations. Must be computer literate
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
