  • What is Impact Volunteering?

    Impact Volunteering includes volunteer duties such as cleaning, sorting donations, building and grounds maintenance, data input and general office work. Upon completing the volunteer application online, Individual(s) tasks will be provided to fit the size of the individual(s) volunteering if date/time is available. Groups are notified within a week prior to their arrival outlining their logistics during their visit. The maximum volunteer group size is 15 unless special arrangements are made with the Volunteer Administrator.

    The minimum age required to volunteer at City Union Mission is 12. Children 12 or under can volunteer alongside a parent or guardian.

    An adult supervision ratio of 1:5 is required for volunteers under the age of 16.

  • What is High Impact Volunteering?

    High Impact Volunteers are Individuals who are called by God and committed to serve. Willing to embrace the Mission’s volunteer ministry objectives the High Impact Volunteers will need to have the commitments listed below.

    To Christ – Sharing the Gospel is key, must have a personal growing relationship with Christ.

    To the Local Church – Part of a local body of believers.

    To the Mission – Agree with mission statement and statement of faith.

    To work with other Believers – A willingness to work with Christians from different denominations.

    To Teamwork – Cooperative in the unity of Christ.

    To Supervision – Willing to follow Mission Supervisors.

  • What days of the week are available for Volunteering?

    Impact Volunteering at City Union Mission Facilities (Downtown Kansas City, MO) Mon-Fri / 8:30AM to 3:45PM (no major holidays), Weekends opportunities are limited.

    Impact Volunteering at City Thrift Stores Volunteering (Antioch and Wornall locations) 7 Days a week / 8:30AM to 3:45PM (no Christmas & Easter)

    High Impact Volunteer Schedules vary by position and are often flexible.

  • What is the minimum age for Volunteering?

  • Can I serve a meal?

    Meals are treated the same at all City Union Mission facilities. We offer only (2) two options for volunteers to serve meals and be involved with meal services here. These two options are…

    1) To Under-write the meal (at a reduced cost) called a “Share A Meal”.

    2) To Provide the meal (prepare it off-site and bring it in to serve) called a “Bring & Serve”.

  • Are there opportunities to serve on Thanksgiving, Christmas & other Holidays?

    Holiday meals are planned well in advance and are generally taken care of by our ministry partners.
